Before you start blaming Micro Niche Finder or Keyword Elite, they are NOT the problem.
Clearing my cache, cookies, deleting old Java and installing the lastest Java, disabling IE addons… all that bullshit wasn’t working. So I went on a witch hunt in the Control Panel and started uninstalling all kinds of crap I didn’t use anymore. After a few minutes I tried getting into the Google keyword tool again and it worked! Cool, I needed to tell people about it.
OMG! But which program was it? I did too much at one time. Wait, I’ll just do a system restore and start over. Then do things one by one and check after each one. Yea, right.
Man, did that ever screw things up because some of the things I removed didn’t completely recover so I had to do a clean install of those items to get the missing files back so they would uninstall correctly.
Babylon Search Engine
Upon doing some reinstalls, I accepted the default installation on one of the programs (I think it was the US Squared Uninstaller) without expanding the list to see what it was actually installing. I got IE and Firefox hi-jacked with the Babylon Search. I uninstalled it from every crack and nook I could find (thanks, YouTube), but every time I opened a new tab in IE, there it was again. Finally fixed it with this registry update.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs
Right-click on the Tabs entry, Modify it and replace it with what ever page you want to go to when you open a new tab, or just enter about:blank so it opens a blank tab.
Long story short, I spent half the day screwing around and was unable to get the Google stuff working again.
NOTE TO SELF: The next time I need a program uninstaller, use Perfect Uninstaller.
I Found It!
This thing’s been nawing on me ever since so this morning I started poking around again and googled “micro niche finder hangs” and I found this post on The Net Results website: http://www.tnrsupport.com/support/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/8/1/error-object-doesnt-support-property-or-method-addeventlistener
Turns out it was the Google Chrome Frame for IE. Don’t just disable it, you have to uninstall it. That was it! That’s the one thing I didn’t uninstall the second time around. I went into the control panel to uninstall it. Had to reboot and BAMM! Bob’s my uncle. I can now used Micro Niche Finder, Keyword Elite, Adwords and the keyword external tool.
Like Sawyer would say, “Son of a bitch.” I hope it works for you. Leave a comment if it does and click the Google PlusOne button on this post.
